Authorities were working to restore electricity to tens of thousands of homes.
Storms brought down trees and destroyed the power supply in southwestern France, with the flood waters reportedly rising by 30 inches [30 cm] per hour in some areas, transmitting Telegrafi.
A 70-year-old man died and five others were injured when trees fell on their vehicles Friday.
An elderly man was abducted from rising waters in the southwestern Lot-et-Garon region. He remains extinct.
Authorities in advance evacuated about 600 people from the Landes area, where Gaus de Pau and Oloron meet.
“We are used to this now”, said a local pensioner who gave his name as Christian, for AFP.
The municipal service company Enedis said 25,000 houses were still without power Saturday, adding that 2,000 technicians were set to deal with the problem.
Wind speed reached 142 miles per hour.
The last storms come less than three weeks after some people lost their lives because of bad weather in Italy and France.
