The president of the Turkish Democratic Party of Kosovo (KDTP), Fikrim Damka, has said that to become part of the upcoming ruling coalition, this party will seek ministerial positions.
He has indicated that this party in the Kosovo Assembly is represented by two deputies and belongs to a ministry.
In this interview given the newspaper “The new age”, Damka has stated that with the taking of new responsibilities in the new government, they will do productive work just as they did in past governments. “In the new government as with deputies from the Turkish community, we will certainly seek ministerial duties. I believe that as the Turkish community, we have done commendable work in past governments. We'll do even better work in the new government”, he said.
The first of the KDTP has cited the other demands of this party that it will have on the mandate for forming the government. “One of our demands will be to have more representation of the Turkish community in Kosovo institutions, not providing conditions for creating the government”, it has indicated.
Damka as the new chairman of this party has also spoken of the internal party process that has made him chief of the KDTP. He has pledged to commit to resolving all problems of the Turkish community in Kosovo.
I thank once again all delegates who have elected me head of the party. The KDTP is the only party representing the Turkish community in Kosovo. So our main tasks are: to be interested in problems in the Turkish community in Kosovo, to create solutions to problems, especially in education and culture. Also, employing young people from the Turkish community is one of our priorities”, Damka has said.
He has not expressed satisfaction with the result this party has reached in the October 6th snap elections.
Damka has pledged that it will be fully committed to boost the number of votes for this party in local elections. The election results on 6 October are the most visible example of the need for change throughout Kosovo. I mean, we've suffered a decline in the votes in terms of the KDTP, and I've not enjoyed the election results. But I believe we will well analyse the election results and try to increase this in local elections”, Damka said.
