Thirteen French troops were killed in an air crash between two helicopters in Mali during Monday's evening while fighting Islamic militants in the state from Africa and the West.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed the deep “sadness over the crash, highlighting “the Kurre of French fighters” in what he called the “severe fight against terrorism” in the Western Africa region.
38 French fighters have been killed in Mali since France had decided to intervene militarily in 2013. The former colonial power in the region, France, had sent military troops when the city of Mt Timbuktou was captured by soldiers threatening to advance towards the state capital in 2012, writes the Guardian, translated Periscope.
Over 4 thousand and 500 troops are currently fighting Islamic uprisings in the region.
The complex military operations in the northern mountain desert have been described as cat and mouse's game in a vast territory with a highly mobilised enemy.
