The president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, has met today the heads of security and justice institutions, Police Director Rashit Qalaj, State Chief Prosecutor Alexander Lumezi, and AKI Director Shpend Maxhuni, with whom he has talked about the security situation on the eve of general elections in Kosovo.
President Thaci has indicated that Kosovo has built traditions of free and democratic elections and praised the process so far as good and without incidents that would violate the electoral process.
“I am sure that even these elections will be free and democratic”, said President Thaci, and added that “and these elections will meet all higher standards”.
Director Qalaj announced to the president that Kosovo Police are in a state of readiness and are in full co-ordination with other institutions to ensure full security on election day, with particular attention at the polling stations.
Chief Prosecutor Lumezi announced there will be prosecutors in a state of readiness at every regional centre in all of Kosovo, as well as co-ordination with all institutions to respond immediately if the need is to arise.
While Director Maxhun of AKI announced that the agency continues to monitor the situation and assess security threats.
The leaders of security and justice institutions announced that they have formed a joint co-ordination centre to speed up information exchange, to co-ordinate the action and to react to any situation in time.
President Thaci thanked Director Qalaj, Chief Prosecutor Lumezi and Director Maximi for professional work and invited for increased caution on election day and the following days.
