Vervoort, who had won the gold and silver in London's Paralympade in 2012, and two other medals in Rio 2016, have an incurable muscle disease, reports Periscope.
Eutanasia is legal in Belgium, and in 2008 she had signed letters that one day would allow doctors to end her life.
A communique from her native city confirmed that Vervoort decided to use this option Tuesday evening.
Vervoort's disease caused her constant pain, fever, paralysis in her legs and insomnia.
In an interview for “BBC” in 2016, she said: “I feel very, very bad. I have epilectic attacks. Cry, scream for pain.
I need a lot of soothing, valium and morphine.” /Periscope. com/
