It was confirmed Friday that Palermo's bankruptcy court has accepted the prosecutors' request to declare extinction.
Andrea Zmparani, son of the former owner, Maurizio, made a bid of 10m euros to pay off debts, but was considered very low, Periscope reports.
US Citta di Palermo was founded in 1987, becoming the fourth club representing the city of Sicily.
The club achieved the best result in history by ending in fifth place in Serie A during the 2000s, before reaching the 2011 Italy Cup final.
However, Palermo was expelled from Serie B for this season due to financial irregularities, competing in Serie D. /Periscope. com/
