Tens of thousands of demonstrators entered the city on Friday, stopping trams and blocking roads.
Protests have taken on such proportions as leading to the postponement of the famous El Classico between Barcelona and the Madrid Real, while Sagrada Familyia in Barcelona, one of the largest tourist attractions, was closed after protesters blocked the entrance.
The Supreme Court's ruling Monday to imprison nine Catalan separatist leaders caused the worst episodes of violence on the streets of Spain in decades. At least 96 people were injured after the protests spread to all regions of eastern Spain.
On Wednesday, barricades were burned and bottles of gasoline poured out as the protests closed the centre of Barcelona.
