Trump: Not much progress has been made in meeting with Congress leaders

United States President Donald Trump has said that “much progress has not been made since Congress leaders failed to meet the president's demands to build the wall on the border with Mexico, whose financing Trump put it into the budget. Building the wall was the cause of the US government's partial closure. [...]
On January 5th, Trump wrote on Twitter that even a meeting will be held on January 6th on the issue.
After many decades, we have to finally solve problems with the southern border”, he wrote, again demanding funds to build the wall along the US-Mexicon border, which is strongly opposed by the Democrats.
Earlier, US Vice President Mike Pence said the meeting at the White House between administration officials and House officials “was productive”.
Members of Congress staff were present at the meeting, not the leading democrat leaders. Neither Trump nor Pence attended.
Trump is demanding $5.6 billion in funds for building the wall with Mexico, while the Democrats in Congress have refused to spend a budget on it.
On 4 January, President Trump had said he would continue to keep partially closed Government “for months or even years” until his request is met.
According to the American president, building the wall is necessary for stopping illegal migrants and smuggling drugs. The Democrats say this would be an inefficient way to fight illegal migration and drug trafficking.
During the 2016 presidential election campaign, Trump had pledged that Mexico would pay for building the wall, but Mexico has refused to do so.
