Throughout Europe, cannabis is becoming increasingly dangerous. This is due to an increase in the quantity of THC (delta-9-tradiokanabidioli ʹ the psychoactive component of cannabis) and the amount of cannabis is shrinking. This is the result of a study by the University of Bath and the Royal College of London, with data collected by the European Observatory for Medical and Poverty Plants in the 28 EU member states and Norway and Turkey.
The results show that THC concentration has increased from 5% to 10% in the last 10 years. Unlike the vegetable cannabis, the liquid contains cannabidiol (Cbd), besides THC. CBD has often been mentioned recently because of the ability to address medical problems such as seizures in children, psychosis, and anxiety.
When present at cannabis, the CBD can compensate for some harmful effects of THC as paranoid or memory damage. Cannabis, which has high levels of THC and low levels of CBD, are linked to greater damage in long term, such as developing cannabis addiction and increased risk of psychotic disease.
The “what we are seeing in Europe is a rise of THC and the constant or declining levels of CBD, which make cannabis potentially more harmful”, researchers say.
