FT vucinac: In Serbia everyone calls me traitor, but I want agreement with Kosovo

Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, in an interview for the Financial Times, has said economic development and trade, as well as reaching agreement with Kosovo, would bring stabilisation to the region. He said that the frozen conflict cannot continue because it would be devastating for everyone, the Periscope broadcasts.

In the interview given to the FCU, Vuciq has said that this will be the year of peace, stability and rapid progress in the region.

Despite this, the year 2019 will be very difficult for the Balkans”, he says, citing even developments taking place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Montenegro.

The Financial Times writes that Vuciq is facing protests and criticism from the media because of his will to reach an agreement with Kosovo.

According to the FT, Vuciq wants to bring Serbia closer to the European Union, adding that he wants to build better reports with his neighbours at a time when Serbs inside and outside Serbia are facing charges of increasing nationalism”.

The FT pays attention to Vuciki's claims that he is willing to work for an agreement with Kosovo, as this alone would bring about a life-saving change in the region, which is still facing the impacts of the former Yugoslav countries.

“Those who think that it is possible refer to it as a frozen conflict perhaps can be said that it was not constantly such, as there are some issues that have been resolved”, Vuciq says, adding that if this issue is not resolved, it would be disastrous for all.

FT, writes, that many Serbs still consider Kosovo part of Serbia. One of the slogans with which protesters took to the streets against Vuciki in Serbia was he too: There's no retreat.

“E knows that most Serbs oppose a solution to Kosovo's problem and all I say is rejected by the public in Serbia”, Vuciq says.

Vucic criticises the Serbian opposition for being unwilling to accept reality”.

They don't have a plan. The only thing they keep saying is I'm a traitor. But I don't care”, he said.

For Vucinqi, reaching agreement with Kosovo would stabilise the” region.

If we could combine our economy with others, of course we would be a successful nation but otherwise, losing the chance to reach a solution would be disastrous for all of us. For everyone living in this region.

The Financial Times also writes that the level of political consensus in Kosovo for dialogue with Serbia is low, and that also damages Vuciqi's” aspirin.
