Autism can be diagnosed with a birth hearing test

Child autism can be diagnosed at birth with a simple hearing test, according to new research.

This would allow treatment to begin years before symptoms develop when they are more likely to work.

Technique measures the changes of pressure in the middle ear in response to sounds of sensitivity and response to a wide range of frequencies.

Known as acoustic, the reflection test is non-invasive so it can be used in a baby without endangering their health.

There is a strong link between auditing and autism suggesting newborn hearing issues can be monitored for neuro-developive disorder.

Professor of anatomy Randy Kulesza at the University of Erie Lake of Osteopatic Medicine in Pennsylvania hopes this will lead to a screening program for all children.

Charity organisations estimate some 700,000 people are affected by autism in Great Britain about one out of every 100 people. There are 3.5 million in the United States.

Autism is four times more common among boys. There is no time for speech and language therapy, but professional therapy and educational support are available to help children and parents.
