The North Atlantic Council has approved the decision to build the first air base in Albania in the Western Balkans.
With funds from the North Atlantic Alliance and in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Albania, NATO will invest over 50m euros, only for the first phase of the project to modernise Kucova air base.
Through this project, which is expected to begin within this year, Kucova will serve as a support basis for NATO for air supply; logistical support; support for air police; as well as training and training of the Alliance.
Kucova would also serve as a national base for the Albanian Air Force and this strategic investment of NATO in Albania will bring a new standard for our Armed Forces.
Of course, an investment in these sizes creates new possibilities for economic and social development throughout the region, where the construction of this new air base of the latest technology is planned.
In parallel, direct discussions are under way with our strategic partner, the US, for modernising further Albanian air capacities. Soon, it is expected that the common decisions of these discussions will go towards the approval of the American Congress.
