Asked by journalists to remove UNMIK's regular report from the UN Security Council agenda for August, Pierce said the Security Council should focus on more urgent issues of international peace and security, and that the Kosovo issue -- still very important -- has no more intensity as in 1999.
Great Britain and other Western countries have contributed to a change in format and the dynamics of the sessions on Kosovo, as well as to the reduction of the UNMIK budget, arguing that the situation in Kosovo does not pose a real threat to international peace and security.
Belgrade believes the Kosovo issue has not been resolved and that the situation on the ground shows the necessity of further presence and engagement of UNMIK's unlimited field and unremitting mandate.
