British Prime Minister Theresa May will host the heads of governments of the 6 Western Balkan countries -- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia -- and repeat London's early commitment to the European region and security.
The summit is the fifth, within the Berlin process, following those in Berlin in 2014, in Vienna in 2015, in Paris in 2016 and Trieste in 2017.
The Berlin process is already an initiative launched by German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2014. Each year, it brings together the six Western Balkan countries, EU partners and representatives of European institutions, to work together in support of security, stability and prosperity in the region.
European partners have also been invited to the London summit, among them Austria, Croatia, France, Germany, Italy and Slovenia.
The summit, under the programme, will focus on boosting economic stability, improving the business environment, encouraging entrepreneurs, addressing youth unemployment and promoting regional ties. Another important topic is regional co-operation in the area of security, the fight against common threats, including corruption, organised crime, human trafficking, drugs, etc.
The summit also aims to facilitate political co-operation, help the region resolve bilateral disputes and put behind its backs issues inherited from the past.
In this context, sources from the Greek government have indicated that Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and Greek Alexis Tsipras will meet in London to discuss negotiations between the two countries on the package of unresolved issues between them.
