Tirana fully solidifies itself with Athens and offers it assistance in coping with the situation caused by apocalypse that included a Greek capital neighbourhood.
As he promised two days ago, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj has proposed to the Municipal Council to approve providing a 50,000-euro financial assistance to alleviate the effects of damage caused by massive fire that swept through the Athens suburb.
In his address to the Municipal Council, Veliaj as he made the proposal stressed that this is a modest aid, but shows that Tirana is today at Athens' side to deal with this natural disaster.
What happened during the last few days in Athens has shocked us all. It's a tragedy of terrible proportions that can't leave anyone indifferent. I have truly felt so much pain for all men, women, and children who lost their lives as a result of such a fierce and massive fire. But I have also felt very proud of the solidarity that all Albanian citizens have shown with our neighbours in these difficult days. Just a few weeks ago, I had the chance to visit City Hall of Athens where we had a very good meeting with my counterpart, where we discussed how we could boost co-operation between our two cities. I have expressed my colleague's most sensitive condolences on behalf of all the citizens of Tirana, but we decided that despite our modest opportunities, we will also offer a tangible financial assistance to help ease the consequences of that tragedy”, Veliaj said.
