According to statistics from Customs and Kosovo, in the first six months of 2018 alone, close to 1.5 million pounds of palm oil have been imported. The increase in palm oil import, compared to the same period in 2017, may also be due to failure to take adequate measures from relevant institutions in Kosovo.
Directors of the Milky Association have said that most palm oil ends up in milk products.
Over the year 2017, about two pounds [2.5 kg] of palm oil have been imported.
In 2017 palm oil has been imported to Kosovo, in many of the 2,453,867.05 kg, worth 2,137,112.71 euros,”, Customs spokesman the Adriatic Stavileci has announced.
Countries from which palm oil is imported have shown it: China, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Pakistan, Macedonia and Serbia.
Meanwhile, Kosovo Milky Association Chairman Ramadan Memaj has said they have doubts that large quantities of palm oil are being imported. According to him, palm oil is ending up in milk products.
Our allegations are that in Kosovo there is a huge import of palm oil, confirmed even with official information year after year, as it has been demonstrated that this oil ends largely in milk products with different names and packages”, Ramadan Memaj said.
Ceatin Kachanic of the Organisation “Consumer” has said institutions are not doing enough to maintain the health of citizens.
I don't see and I'm not convinced they're doing their best. It's been a long time since the palm oil has reached the breast. This oil is even added to chocolates and all conscripts. He's also in cookies, cheese, éhopla, yogurt, milk”, Kachanic said.
According to him, there are times when plant oils are not declared to be in the product's content. Not all food items declare the presence of palm oil. Some of these presences are declared by figures that few citizens understand or declare only as plant oil”, said the head of the Organization “Consumer” Cachanic Selatin.
While officials of the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV), despite the legal obligation to care for the safety of products they consume, have not been declared about the import and use of palm oil in our country.
