The Kosovo Journalists' Association has chosen the new chairman and board today. The mayor has been elected Gentiana Begolli, while new members are Leonora Dalipi, Ardiana Thaci, Arsim Halili, Elvira Berisha, Dardan Hoti, Mentor Gjerjana Krasniqi and Mentor Buzhala.
Present at the extraordinary Assembly was also the head of the O mission The SEU in Kosovo, Yaan Brathu.
Brathu has stressed the importance of media in the country's society for fair information and for dealing with important topics of opinion despite various pressures.
I think it's time for the word to be respected, because I think that association is the future of all journalists in Kosovo... It is important that journalists stay together to protect the profession and challenges in the environment. Media freedom is one of the essential processes in democratic society, as media and journalists report important things in general public information”, Brathu has said.
AGK board member Arsim Halili has figured out the work of the last board, saying AGK has entered the right path of operation and thus acquired the credibility of the journalists' community.
“During our mandate has increased the level of transparency, accountability and responsibility. For the first time since the founding of AGK in 2002, a board I The AGK has banned abuses within the organisation itself by taking steps against all violators and following all legal steps to impose order. You are already aware that the board has dismissed the executive director from office and has released the finance post after being occupied in abuse of official task”, Halili said.
