Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has remembered football legend Fadil Vokrin, who died yesterday of a heart attack.
Thaci, with a touching Facebook post, wrote that many children dreamed of becoming Fadhil, and world teams wanted to take it for yourself.
According to him, Fadil continued to score for Kosovo even outside the field, and his key notes were Kosovo's membership in FIFA and UEFA.
Here's Thaci's post:
I've met many personalities who carried legend in the field where they had contributed, to Kosovo and abroad. Among these, however, was Fadil Vokrri.
I met him three decades ago by the football tribunes, where we were impressed with his skill with the ball in his golden years as a football player. Every Albanian family lived by its name. Children lived with the dream of becoming “Fadilla”.
The world was running for its teams outside Pristina. But even in the worst, most difficult moments, it remained loyal to Kosovo.
His goals were our sports joy and our national pride. His rare miss out on the field were despair for all of us.
Fadhil continued to score for Kosovo even outside the field. His main notes were Kosovo membership in FIFA, U EFA. We will always be grateful for everything he has done for Kosovo.
