A simple blood test, which can detect 10 different types of cancer many years before someone gets sick, has been described as the holy <x0-ccerultile” in cancer research.
Scientists in America have discovered that a simple test can detect the first signs of breast cancer, ovaries, intestines, lungs, and so on. This test works taking segments from the DNA of cancer cells. During a study conducted on more than 1400 people, the triple test resulted in 90% accuracy.
The authors of the study, conducted by Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, will present the results during the annual conference of the American Clinical Oncology Association in Chicago. They hope this test is available within 10 years.
This is potentially the sacred grail in cancer studies, which can in early stages detect difficult types of cancer to cure, and we hope that this test can save several lives of people”, says chief study author Dr. Eric Klein.
The test has revealed the first warning signs in the blood for 10 different types of cancer, with more than 50% accuracy. The best results were for ovaries and pancreatic cancer, where 90% and 80% of people with these diseases were diagnosed. 4 out of 5 people were also diagnosed precisely with liver cancer and the bladder. While for blood cancer, such as lymphoma and mieloma, accuracy was 77% and 73%, while 2/3 of people were correctly diagnosed with intestine cancer.
The results for breast cancer were 58% accurate, and the test also revealed lung, throat, head and neck cancer with more than 50% accuracy.
