A former imam has been sentenced to five years in prison, on charges of abusing a young man in the mosque at Nottingham.

Muhammad Rabani, 61, was an imam at a mosque in Sneinton for more than 25 years, when he began abusing his victim, who was 12 years old, writes the British daily Metrot50, broadcast Indesklin.

Mohammed Aslam Rabani, 61, of St Stephen's Road, Sneinton was supported by the officers holding an eight-day trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

Abuse continued between 1990 and 1992, but the victim did not report it to the police until 2015.

Raban, from Sneinton, denied the charges, but was found guilty of three counts of improper attacks after a trial.

The victim is now married and a father.

He said Rabani targeted him as a child. /Indesksonline/
