At least 62 people died after an active volcano erupted in Guatemala, the country's civil protection reported today.
The eruption of this volcano, at an altitude of 3763m and located 35km southwest of Guatemala's capital, also caused the evacuation of more than 4,500 people, Reuters writes.
The international airport “Ciudad de Guatemala” was provisionally closed due to large quantities of volcano ash.
The blast mainly included rural municipalities in the vicinity of the volcano and the former colonial city of Antigua, the most important tourist area of Guatemala.
