Kosovo expects from sources within police learns that Veliu has already submitted asylum request to the Department of State and Asia at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Albania's known Veliu under the nickname Babalje has been arrested Sunday in the town of Shtime along with his son. Kosovo Police have confirmed his arrest.
Department of State, Asylum and Migration Director at MPB Valon Krasniqi, contacted by Kosovo Press, has said that to confirm the request made to the dictatorship he runs, questions must be asked through the MPB's Communications Office.
Despite the questions sent to this office via email before 1: 00 a.m. on Tuesday, the Communications Office has not returned.
Unlike Albania's Democratic Party, claims that a conversation between Albert Veliu and Agron Xhafaj indicates that the latter has followed narcotics trafficking, even when his brother Fatmir Xhafaj held office as interior minister.
After the release of the video two weeks ago, Veliu tried to leave the country, but was stopped in Kukes.
The prosecution sent the investigation abroad for expertise. Interior Minister and Prime Minister claim this surveillance audio is manipulated, while the Democratic Party stands behind its version, that the wiretap shows Agron Xhafaj's involvement in drug trafficking and requires the minister's immediate departure. /
