Plas scandal in Albania, PD releases wiretapping involving Minister Xhafa's brother

The Socialist Party reacted immediately through parliamentary group chairman Taulant Balla, who demanded that the prosecution immediately initiate investigations to prove the authenticity or not of claims filed by the opposition.

For days, the Democratic Party is directly accusing Albanian Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj of his brother, arrested in Italy in 2002 for participating in a criminal organisation that was involved in drug trafficking and convicted in 2012 by the Italian court for 7 years and two months in prison, reports VOA.

Today the Democrats published the audio recording of a conversation that they said was held between a former convict in Italy, which they identify as X Co-worker and Interior Minister Fatmir Xhafaj's brother. The time when this meeting was fulfilled has not been revealed. Both, according to the Democratic Party, have previously co-operated in drug trafficking, and in a conversation held in a local club, the former convict asks Xhafaj's brother to help secure, according to the Democrats, a shipment of marijuana.

According to MP Ervin Saliannji, the minister's brother continues the narcotics activity “but not vulnerable as long as he is the brother of the interior minister. Fatmir Xhafaj is Agron Xhafaj's defence. Fatmir Xhafaj provides the drug dealer brother with the support of State Police”.
