Haradinaj: Government sípo has capacity to translate documents into Serbian language

Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has stated that the government's capacity is not yet sufficient for translating materials into other official languages in Kosovo, so more needs to be invested in the framework, but also in resources, so that it can function in two official languages.

Haradinaj said he does not always manage to offer material in the Serbian language due to the volume-intensive dynamic of materials.

There are cases that the volumeal dynamics of materials make it difficult to be in time with materials in the Serbian language, so our capacity is not enough yet, we need to invest much more in the context, but also in resources that can function in time two official languages. What's important is learning each other's language and I think that in Kosovo we should be bold to learn each other's language”, he said.

The chairman of the non-governmental organisation “Society Development Communications Ivan Nikollic said that when it comes to language and the law on language use must be acknowledged that in Kosovo everything works in the best way.

It's really sad that there's no municipality in these 20 municipalities that we've visited that fully respect the law on languages, if the inscription is in many languages, then we get the material in a language, even if materials and forms are lit up in many languages, then the inscription on a director is not in many languages. Even if all of this is fulfilled, officials who work most with customers do not speak the language of the other community, as it may be, it is a pity that the 20 municipalities we have visited, none respects the law as a whole“, he said.

While Mary Hua of Welles of Great Britain, who is commissioner for Welsh and outgoing chairman of the Association, has also expressed the satisfaction she is visiting Kosovo.

It is the absolute privilege I am visiting Kosovo, and to see and hear experiences, as Mr. Slavisa described in a very eloquent way for the past years. We have seen it with our eyes, heard it with our ears during these days so thank you for this privilege you gave me to visit Kosovo. As the leader of the International Association of Language Commissioners, and with the completion of my mission this year it's natural to look back and look at this association, which is five years old, it's very new association, we're not babies anymore, but we're still not old enough to have to be”, she said.

Hue has added that despite differences among states that are part of association, all states work for linguistic rights independently.

All these statements have been made at the fifth annual conference of the International Commissioners for Language Association.

At a special focus conference, there is the status of languages in societies resulting from conflict, advanced service delivery in official languages through active offering, as well as the challenges and possibilities of learning official languages in education.
