The sacrifice of Adam Jashar and his family is a unique case in human history. Its message is spoken to centuries and all peoples: Nothing is more precious than freedom. So Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Wessel at the solemn hearing to honour the KLA era.
In his speech, Wessel said Kosovo achieved freedom, a dream of Adam Jashar and many martyrs. The chief speaker stressed that the state has marked many achieved, but many challenges ahead of itself, in particular for economic development, await it.
This is his full speech:
We are gathered today in this special session, in honour of one of the greatest sacrifices of our people for freedom and independence: the sacrifice of the Jashar family by Prekazi and the Kosovo Chief Lord-in-law, Legendary Commander Adem Jashar.
The years are passing, but the memory of March 5, 1998, remains the eternal monument in the hearts of our nation.
Our pain and pride remain at the same time.
History and eras changed that day in Prekaz.
The age of waiting and the dark life of submission came to an end.
The era of revolt began, the era of confrontation with evil, of triumph over evil.
The era of Kosovo's final liberation from one-year captivity.
The age of the most glorious movement our people have created in history: The Kosovo Liberation Army.

The sacrifice of Adam Jashar and his family is a unique case in human history.
Its message is spoken to centuries and all peoples: Nothing is more precious than freedom.
The events of 5th 6th and 7 March 1998 in Prekaz brought to the world the great truth of Kosovo:
On one hand, we had the fierce Serbian regime ready for any kind of terror, only to keep Kosovo under rule.
And on the other hand, her people, who had decided to end captivity forever.
Adem Jashar believed that the dream of freedom was stronger than terror.
And history gave him the right.
That day, the beginning of Serbia's end in Kosovo began in Prekaz.
The dream of Adam Jashar and thousands of Kosovo martyrs came true.

Ladies and Gentlemen
In these 20 years, Kosovo has scored major achievements.
Even the greatest skeptics cannot overlook them.
On 10th anniversary of Adem Jashar's fall, Kosovo declared its independence
Today, we are a democratic state:
High standards of citizens' freedom and rights.
Factive of peace and stability in the region.
For the first time, as a nation lined up straight.
The stable partner of the north-Atlantic alliance.
And devoted to the path of European integration.
Of course, part of our story of success is the great challenges that we face, especially those of economic development and the improvement in the lives of citizens.
As of this, I consider that on this great day for our nation, the question is not what did martyrs do for Kosovo?
Each of us, large and small, knows the answer to this question: They gave their lives so that we might be free.
There is no more patriotic act that anyone can do for his country than this.
The question posed today is another: What are we doing for Kosovo, the living?
Are we doing our tasks?
Are we properly fulfilling the will of our citizens?
Are we respecting ourselves, our country?
Are we working for the future of this country's children?
The truth is, we need a moral twist in our political thinking and behavior.
Think more about the citizen.
Let's face the fact that we are in democracy and there is no other way of moving forward, except for the way of communication, compromise and common consensus for the interests of the country and citizens.
I strongly believe there is no insurmountable ditch between us.
We are not here to despair of citizens, but to give them hope and arguments that this country is on track and has a secure future.
We're gonna do this.
Of course, together, led by the legacy of martyrs and the dreams of Kosovo children for a secure and dignified future in their homeland.
Blessed and everlasting be the memory of Adam Jashar, his family, and all the martyrs of freedom.
