US Vice President Mike Pence has told Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbas that his state must work jointly with the United States and do more to defeat the Taliban and the other militants, the White House has announced.
Vice President Pence has reiterated President Donald Trump's request that the Pakistani government should do more to address the continued presence of the Taliban, the Haqqani network and other terrorist groups operating in their state”, the White House reportedly reported.
“Pakistan must work together with the United States”, said further in the announcement.
In the White House statement, however, it has not been stated exactly when the meeting was held, but the media have cited sources, which have said the meeting was held at the official residence of Pence in Washington.
Sources have said Abbas has been on a private visit to the United States and that the meeting with Pence has been made at the request of the Pakistani prime minister.
