NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu stressed in a communique that Russian president's statements threatening Atlantic Alliance states were unacceptable and harmful.
The Russian president's “Declarations that threaten Alliance states are unacceptable and harmful. NATO has stressed many times that NATO's missile defence system does not target Russia”, Lungescu stressed.
It underlined that NATO missile defence system provides protection against threats of nuclear missiles that could come from outside the Euro-Atlantic zone.
Noting that NATO is ready to defend all allies against any kind of threat, Lungescu added “that we do not want a new Cold War, or weapons race”.
“NATO, despite aggressive work and military gathering in Ukraine, will continue to follow a policy, which plans to bring dialogue to the fore”, Lungescu stressed.
