Commissioner for Enlargement and Good Neighbor Johannes Hahn has reaffirmed that there will be no progress towards membership without full and sustainable normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, through signing the binding legal agreement.
“Sic stressed it earlier, the EU-mediated dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade is key to sustainable normalisation of the reports so that the two countries will mark progress on the road to European integration. This has also been made clear in the strategy, where it says dialogue should be concluded with legal binding agreement between the two countries”, has written Hahn in the letter to Deputy Prime Minister Hoxhaj.
Also, in this letter Hahn has stressed that the new strategy for European Union enlargement includes all Western Balkan countries, and above all, enables the membership of all states except on the basis of reform merits and the approach of policies with the EU.
Hahn has suggested that the European Union is committed to giving Kosovo and other Western Balkan countries real and reliable prospects for EU membership.
These statements were made to Hahn in response to Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Enver Hoxhaj, who had sent the commissioner a letter clarifying Kosovo's position on the new strategy.
Hoxhaj urged equal and comprehensive access to strategies for all Western Balkan countries, stressing that this is the only way to ensure lasting stability and peace in the region, as well as a fair process of integration.
