For a few days, Pacolli replaces 22 Kosovo diplomats

The Kosovo government plans within a few days to replace 22 diplomats, of them 12 ambassadors who are currently accredited in different states, where Kosovo has its own embassies and diplomatic representatives. The entire process is expected to take place through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Kosovo Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli said [...]

The entire process is expected to take place through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Kosovo Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli told Radio Free Europe that changes to diplomatic services will also occur under the ongoing reforms.

“We are moving ahead with our reforms. We now have the shift of 22 Kosovo diplomats and around 12 ambassadors under way. In addition, we are working on accelerated steps in the new Foreign Ministry Law and on the reforms of the ministry itself”, Pacolli said.

According to Kosovo Foreign Minister, for new appointments, the ministry will not allow political influences, and that according to him, neither promotions will be made for those who do not deserve it.

The one who deserves to be the minister, ambassador... Whoever doesn't deserve it must practically form. I'm telling you that for this assessment we've done inside, we're also expecting answers from three sources or institutions from abroad to come and verify our selection. It means, without this selection happening and without being sure that we have made good choices, there will be no degrees from this minister”, Pacolli said.

Meanwhile, MP Vjosa Osmani, chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission from the Democratic League of Kosovo, told Radio Free Europe that there are people in Kosovo's diplomatic missions who do good jobs, but according to her, there are also those who, with their presence, have given bad image to the country.

Osmani says that in certain phases, when diplomatic appointments have been made, political militantism has dominated, as criteria for inadequate appointments and professional preparation.

It is the last moment that Kosovo diplomacy is directed towards professionalism and eliminate militaristism. This is essential if we want to build a foreign policy that only looks at Kosovo's interests and an external policy that will resist time and will not change the people who serve in diplomatic service, depending on who comes to power”, Osmani said.

It views only as political rhetoric warnings by the head of Kosovo's diplomacy for reforms in the foreign ministry and the interruption of promotions on party grounds.

This is just in the rhetorical phase of how much I understand in the past many times we've heard from PDK ministers this, because this minister has been led mainly by the PDK, except for a period of time when he was led by Skender Hyseni. [AFP] LDK]. So we have repeatedly heard promises that the system will be reformed and that people who fail to meet the criteria will return. However, this has not happened yet, it is too early to say that only because we have such a statement will happen”, Osmani said.

Increasing the number of recognitions and the membership of Kosovo in international organisations remains one of the main goals of the current government, similar to those forebears.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Government of Kosovo Behgjet Pacolli told Radio Free Europe that new recognitions for Kosovo are an unstoppable process. He said he has a continued commitment to achieve concrete results.

On February 17th, Kosovo has marked the first jubilee of independence. For 10 years of citizenship, Kosovo has recognised 116 states.

But the newest European state has not yet secured its seat in the United Nations Organisation and has not won the European Union's unique support, because five EU member states do not recognise it as a state.
