On February 10, 2018, the Lazi family residence in the village of Kacivel in Elbasan was burned with fire, and 4 children between 2 and 14 years of age, as well as two family heads, take refuge in relatives, where 10 people stay in one room. Three weeks after the event, the respective structures still do not have an answer from the expert for the trigger of the fire, while suspected of an electric spark.
“Fiks Farhe” traveled to the Lazi family, where the family head said the Elbasan municipality promised him an umbrella, but although time passed, no person brought the umbrella. The fire fell after lunch. I came home, had lunch and then went to work in the fields. There I was informed that fire was on. When I arrived, I tried to get inside, save something, but it was late. Everything was burned down within minutes. I had my house installations a few months ago, and they were new”, says the family head.
According to him, the only cause of the fire may be energy, having been cut off for about two hours and then came down with fire. We've had power bar problems before, the local electrician knows that. There is nothing left of the apartment, but fortunately, my family was in my brother's house a few minutes from here. I'm in heaven now. They promised me an umbrella, but they haven't. At least put it here, in a room”, says the family head.
Meanwhile, his wife says that she went to her brother - in - law home with her children. When I get down, you call me the next brother-in-law who's on fire. We arrived immediately, but the flames involved everything. Before New Year's Eve, I also received loans and bought some new items. Now I can't take any more because my name is in two banks and I don't even know how I'm going to repay them. So far, it has only helped the village with clothing and food, since everything has been burned. I pray to the State and who has the opportunity to help me at least have a room where I can put my kids”, she says, as she shows the kitchen and the living room, where there's nothing left.
With the Lazi family, journalists go to the house to which they are sheltered. A fire is lit in the courtyard, where they heat water to wash their clothes, having no washing machine and washing their clothes with their hands. Kunata says he opened the door, but it's very difficult because both families, out of 10, sleep in a room.
“Fiks Farhe” also asked the head of the village of Kacivel, Petrit Karaj, who said he was promised by the Elbasan municipality that the Lazi family will become home. According to him, the family is treated with economic assistance. He says that fluctuations of power pressure have caused more fires in village dwellings. Regarding the family's assistance, the family head says that he was promised an umbrella, but in the municipality he was told that the warehouse is empty.
Fix also took an interest in the Civil Emergency Directorate in Elbasan, where the director, Luan Dervisi, said the assistance to this family is not the jurisdiction of the municipality, but of the Civil Emergency in Tirana.
