Representatives of organisations dealing with protecting children's rights in Kosovo express concern with this degree of use of violence against them.
The Coalition of Nongovernmental Organisations for Child Rights published a recent report praising that violence in Kosovo continues to be considered a method used for child education and discipline.
In a statement sent to the Voice of America, this coalition says the violence and physical punishment of children in Kosovo remains a accepted and implemented social standard by parents and society. The situation continues to remain quite disturbing, representatives of this coalition say, calling for national awareness to protect children, promote positive methods of parenting and discipline.
Psychologist Shqipe Vitija says that violence exerted on children causes serious consequences in their formation, encouraging them to use violence in the future.
Starting with what a child may have lower self - confidence, there may be a lack of socialization, it may fall into learning processes that mean its cognitive development is damaged, then emotional disorder”, says Vitija.
Ombudsman Hilmi Jashar says his office has repeated complaints about child violence. It proposes that the examples of European states be followed in regulating a system that enables the discovery and treatment of children suffering from violence.
Suppose one of them is the Netherlands, which appreciates neglect to care for children unless the child's caries disease is presented and immediately intervenes in social work centers then to care for and see if the child is okay and enjoys adequate care. But as we know in Kosovo still such a system of systematic care does not exist”, says Jashar.
According to the Kosovo Statistics Agency, 61.4 per cent of children in Kosovo have claimed to have been victims of physical and psychological violence within the family environment, time conveys.net. Of them 59 percent have suffered psychological violence and 24 percent physical punishment. And in the Kosovo Police in 2017, a total of 243 children were reported victims of various forms of violence. / VoA
