This process has started well, says Africa Atesin, director of the Corruption Prevention Department, but that the number of officials who declare property at the beginning of the month is slim.
According to him, between March 1st and now, some 150 officials have been filling out forms, until there are 4 thousand and 700 officials who must complete the legal obligation for property statements.
According to him, last year, the agency has filed criminal charges against persons who have not declared the property, but these cases are the hands of prosecutors and courts and that it does not know if they have been fined.
Atish even adds that they are not satisfied with the sentences they receive.
He adds that for these reasons, the AKK has been pushing to change the law on property statements.
By contrast, according to legal deposits, the regular declaration of property begins from March 1st and closes on March 31st. The declaration of property is subject to all senior public officials, except those who have declared property on the occasion of taking office after the January 1st of this year.
Do not utter a false statement or a lie of wealth by the superior public officials is a criminal offense, which is sanctioned by the Penal Code.
