Swiss politician raises alarm against possible Kosovo EU accession

Kosovars' desire for EU membership could be satisfied in a few years. This, for the fact that the EU has put states of the Western Balkans on the horizon: Serbia, Montenegro. Albania, Bosnia, Macedonia and Kosovo accept it by 2025, writes 20minute.ch. Some of the countries are already [...]
Some of the states are already holding membership talks. The EU Commission wants through the appointment of the date to motivate relevant governments to undertake relevant reforms, albinfo.ch broadcasts. It's an indicative “, a brave date”, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has said before the European Parliament in Strasbourg. But currently the countries of the Western Balkans are still far from meeting the” conditions. For example, conflicts within the region must be resolved before EU accession.
However, a party in Switzerland is feeling concerned by EU plans for enlargement. This is SVP, which with its initiative has long been aimed at cutting off the free movement agreement with the EU, writes albinfo.ch. The deputy of this party in the Swiss Parliament, Thomas Matter, in a video published on Facebook, warns that “Zvicra, in case of an EU expansion in the Balkan states, the existing free movement agreement is forced to extend it to these states. The pressure for migration will become even more dramatic, since the economic situation in these Balkan states is hopeless and many people are already living in Switzerland.
According to the Federal Bureau for Statistics, there are 280 thousand people from 6 countries in the Western Balkans, without counting here those who, along with the citizenship of the country of origin, have Switzerland. For MEP Matter this is clear: “People go where relatives and acquaintances live”.
But representatives of other parties differ. So MP from Social Democrat Party (SP) Eric Nussbaumer says: “is a good job when European states and Balkan countries target EU membership. Strong economic ties and cooperation are the best means against any nationalism that endangers peace. But Nussbaumer adds that the potential candidate “states must meet the criteria for better economic performance, for rule of law and for stabilised democratic order”.
Even the deputy from the CVP, Kathy Ricklin, has spoken of a <x0-scanar fear” that is promoting SVP. The “Nor after the EU's expansion with Bulgaria and Romania had there been any major migration from these countries”, the albinfo.ch broadcasts. But she also does not believe that the accession of Western Balkan countries will go so fast. The EU's “The EU has become cautious after the rapid expansion very fast to the east”, Ricklin said.
