One of the most controversial German policy topics when the refugee families should take over? The German Parliament approved the compromise reached between the CDU union/ CSU and Social Democrats.
Bundestag decided to postpone the family union ban on refugees with limited status stays - those not fully recognised as asylumrs until the end of July. Earlier, the broad - based coalition had banned the family union for two years since March 2016. Now the conservative Union of the Christian Democrat party, CDU and Christian-based CSU, along with the Social Democrats, reached the compromise between them following prolonged debates on a new postponement. After July, the arrival of 1,000 people a month will be allowed, excluding special cases.
The Green and Left have criticised the regulation, while the rightist AfD party requires the complete abolition of the claim of family union for refugees with limited status stance. By the end of July, the new possible coalition between conservatives and Social Democrats will enable regulations that will allow family arrivals from early August. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, who called this a realistic compromise, stressed that visas will also be given for exceptional special cases. The head of the Mayta parliamentary group, Dietmar Bartsch, criticised the law, calling it “arbirr, as well as morally and unmistakably questioned”. /dw
