Serbia urges Albania to withdraw recognition of Kosovo independence with two letters: Rama returns

Serbia urges Albania to reconsider its stance on Kosovo Independence. The Serbian prime minister himself has sent two letters to Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, asking him to use what she calls his “influence in Pristina”, so that Kosovo can implement international agreements, among which it can give up [...]

The first letter dates November 16th and comes in written with a language that is common to Serbian diplomacy uses at the height of anti-Albanian propaganda at Security Council hearings and beyond. The Serbian prime minister complains about what she calls oppression and crimes against her people, which continue without letup and threaten to escalate further.

I'm asking you because you have recognised the so-called Republic of Kosovo as an independent state so that you can use your influence over Pristina to abide by international agreements and laws. If, contrary to your influence, they continue to violate international agreements and pacts, I ask you to review your position in support of Independence”, it is written in Brnabic's first letter, November 16, 2018.

Six days later, without receiving an answer to the pathetic letter, where Albanians and the government in Kosovo are blamed for false facts, the Serbian prime minister again addresses Rama with a second letter.

In this letter, Brnatic, with softer tones and economic arguments, speaks of the consequences of the tax on Serbian goods and damage, which according to her becoming the business climate in the Western Balkans. It again urges Rama to use the influence and trust that Kosovo institutions have on him, to remove these measures, and reminds her that Serbia will not take reciprocal measures.

Finally, the answer comes two weeks later, in a letter where the Albanian prime minister reminds his Serbian counterpart of her state crimes in Kosovo, Kosovo's recognitions and advances after the war.

Dear colleague. It's just impossible for me to understand your call to reconsider our position in support of Independence... Albania's position is that Kosovo is an independent state and a sovereign country, which takes its decisions independently, which Serbia and others should respect, as reflecting the sovereign will of the people of Kosovo through democratic elected leaders”, Rama's response is said on December 3rd.

Rama reminds Brnabici of his commitments, together with its President Aleksandar Vucic, and they strongly agree to achieve reconciliation through regional co-operation, which you say the prime minister, you have violated with obstacles to Kosovo's membership in international organisations, such as INTERPOL or U. NESTO.

Albania has supported the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, led by the European Union. But, we cannot help but testify that under the mask of dialogue, Serbia has undertaken obstacles and hostile acts against Kosovo, which are harmful to the spirit of comprehensive regional co-operation, which is not worthy of an EU candidate state. We believe that pursuing the path of dialogue, with sincerity and realism, will be the only successful alternative to reach mandatory and sustainable solutions for both sides, as well as peace and stability in the region”, Rama's response is further said.
