The recommended amount of sleep for adults is six to eight hours per night. Sleeping more, the risk of death and cardiovascular disease increases, a global study published on Wednesday in the European Heart Journal says.
Looking at data from 21 countries in seven regions, the research team found that people sleeping more than the eight-hour border increased the risk of large cardiovascular problems, such as heart attack or heart failure, and death to 41%.
But one possible reason for this may be that “sleepiness” in advance may have certain health problems that make them sleep longer, the study authors explain.
The team, led by Chuangshi Wang, Ph.D. Students at McMister also identified an increasing danger from those sleeping in the day.
Previous studies on the subject were conducted mainly in North America, Europe, and Japan. The new study brings a global view.
But the findings are still on watch, which means that the cause of heart problems and the risk of death remains unknown.
