The Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning has raised concerns about the use of imported diaper, which serves for heating.
Weeks ago at a commission meeting, Environment Minister Fatmir Matoshi has voiced doubts that imported diapers may also have harmful compounds, especially those coming from the neighbouring state, Serbia.
It is said that this fuel contains rubber and coal. Even according to Environmental Protection Agency chief Ilir Morina, the diaper may be one of the causes of air pollution in the country. He has made it known that they are dealing with this concern, but that he says it falls more to the responsibility of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
As one of the market supervision objectives in Kosovo by the MTI is the securing of the functioning internal market in which economic subjects will have equal conditions in doing business in Kosovo.
Indexline has sent questions to the MTI address to understand more about this product being considered suspicious and harmful to use.
“As to the issue that the quality of solid fuels, respectively, of the wooden cloth product that is traded on the market of the Republic of Kosovo and used for meeting the needs of consumers for heating, the Market Inspectorate, which operates within the MTI, is developing field activities on monitoring the product, in terms of meeting the legal requirements for circulation on the Kosovo Republic market”, their response is said.
In the official response of this ministry, it is said that from the monitoring that has been conducted, this product is in line with legal requirements.
Therefore, this product from monitoring conducted so far is in circulation on the Kosovo market in accordance with legal requirements (the product is associated with supporting documentation)”, officials of this Ministry for Indexline have stressed.
According to them, wooden diapers are associated with technical documentation and test-reports of tests released by the labs.
“So far from the inspections carried out, the product “wood for heating” is declared and associated with necessary technical documentation, respectively, with tests of analysis released by the testing labs inside and outside the country”, it is said among other things in that response.
Currently, a large part of Kosovo's residents are heated with this fuel, and the price for a ton of diapers starts from 180 euros to 220 euros.
