Meetings can be challenging. What about your first encounters, starting where to go, what to do, what to say, and what should you wear? Even harder.
“Editor Men '%s Health”, Brett Williams and the editor of” Cosmopolitan”, Rosa Heyman finds out how to succeed in the first meeting, including the first things they notice, how they prepare, and what you should never do at a meeting.
As for first impression:
Rosa: That might make me look shallow, but I'll be honest. I've noticed someone's appearance and how they keep themselves in their clothes and if they're smiling.
Brett: I don't think there's anything shallow about it. It's that initial moment when you just enter the room and you get the impression of how seriously the other person is taking this meeting.
As for preparations for the first meeting:
Brett: I'm in a typical way gonna make sure I look like I've tried to fit in. But not exaggerated. I'd wear something a little more beautiful than what I wear to work, but that depends on what we do. Besides, just make sure I'm hygienic and smells good. I'm not a big fan of perfumes, just a little bit on the inside of my shirt. You don't want to sit next to someone and he's choked with scent.
Rosa: I like to have a glass of wine in advance, relax, especially if the meeting is after work. Then brush your teeth and fix your makeup.
Brett: I think the best way to prepare, frankly, is to just remember that you're dating someone and that must be fun.
Rosa: Being in a good mood is important.
As for the things you ought to do, and you must not do:
Rosa: I hate it when people show no interest in asking them many questions about themselves. It's not that I want to talk about myself. I just want to feel like I'm not an interviewer at a work office.
Brett: Another “mos”: Don't be mean to people who serve you.
Rosa: I also don't like it when the other person is on the phone all the time. It's disrespectful. And I can't complain about things like this from the start because I don't know him well, but he needs to know for himself that it's one of the things he shouldn't do.
Brett: Don't lie. Don't just say things to please her. It's important someone recognizes you as you are from the beginning. And also don't talk about ex-boyfriend.
Rosa: But there are things to say on the first date. If I had a baby, I should have mentioned it.
Who should pay:
Rosa: Whoever wants out must offer to pay. If I ask somebody out, I'll pay. However, it may be easier if both sides decide to share the bill on a first date.
Brett: At a first date, I wait a minute and if there's no reaction, I'll pay. But most girls are offered to share the bill, and this usually happens.
As for the question: When do you write after the meeting?
Brett: If the meeting went well, I would certainly write. Sometimes the same day with some random questions like “You reached home” or I just said I had a good time.
Rosa: I totally agree. However, I would prefer a message the next day, not immediately. But if he doesn't write you in three days, then something went wrong and it's not worth waiting for anymore.
As for kissing on the first date:
Rosa: If I like the other guy, I want to kiss him on my first date. There's another “test” whether I want to continue this thing or not.
Brett: And for me, it's more than normal.
