The “housing centre for protection of women and children” this year has seen an increase in the number of victims of violence. That is what the director of the center, Zana Aslan, himself says.
If we take statistics compared to the same period last year, the number of women sheltered is higher for 10%. From June of this year, we have re-opened the shelter, where 54 cases from that period have been presented to us from the Pristina region (Pristina, Podujev, Fushe Kosova, Lipjan, Obiliki)”, Zana Aslan told Rtv Duqagjini.
The challenge in this shelter is mothers with children who are not able to continue their children's regular instruction because of their school locations.
The various cases of mothers with children are a problem we have not yet been able to solve with the Education Directorate in Pristina, since we have asked students to go to the nearest school so that they will not lose a day of school”, Zana Aslan said.
The problem for this center is economic financing. That's the main reason victims can return to the abuser.
In Kosovo, there are 9 accommodations for victims of violence, which are licensed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Management.
