One of the world's largest carpets, old nearly 120 years old, which adorns the floor of the Gilead Hall of the Yildiz Palace, has recently been taken out of the palace to clean and restore.
The Ibrahimi “Hereke” worked in the distant year 1897 adorns the floor of the Galla salon on the occasion of the then meeting of Sultan Abdulhamid II and German King Wilhelm II, writes Anadalu.
After 12 decades the carpet for the first time was extracted from the palace and washed in a swimming pool designed by special means to prepare it for the restoration process.
The carpet weighs about 3 tons and covers an area of 468 square meters. His Salon will be back after the restoration, which will last about three years.
Turkey's Department of Management Vice-Director Ahmet Chapoğlu for AA said this is Turkey's largest carpet and one of the largest in the world.
This is a valuable historical artifact. Sultan Abdulhamid had ordered him to take place on the occasion of the German King Wilhelm's reception. Laras on the carpet are designed by court painter Emil Meinz”, Chapoğlu said.
The carpet was designed in accordance with the ornaments on the walls and ceiling of the Grand Salon in the palace, while Chapoğlu said the carpet was sent to a special site for restoration that was needed because in time there was apparent damage.
Washing the carpet was also a dedicated commitment, with which a special detector made by experts at Istanbul Technical University was used.
With the restoration of the carpet in the next 2 to 3 years, professionals from the Department for Management with Turkey's National Tables” will be taken, Chapoğlu said. / AA
