Two weeks after the Municipal Parliament voted unanimously for the union of Mitrovica, President Agim Bahtiri's initiative has remained only on paper.
The latter has not even responded to the Local Power Management Ministry.
While Bahtiri for the newspaper “Voice” is convinced of the life of his initiative, Kosovo Parliament deputies say this is an impossible mission, since it is central and not local.
Otherwise, on November 30, 2018 The South Mitrovica Municipal Assembly unanimously voted in favour of this municipality's presidential initiative, Agim Bahtiri, for the union of Mitrovica.
In the Mitrovica Parliament's voted resolution, it was proposed to the Government of Kosovo to change the Law on Administrative Borders. By abolishing the 2007 decision on partitioning Mitrovica, according to Bahtir, the Law on Administrative Borders would be amended and therefore join the two parts of the city of Mitrovica. But Agim Bahtiri's initiative has faced the first inexorable obstacle that is the law. According to the Law Under of Administration Borders, an initiative for territorial change of municipal borders can only be taken by the president, by the prime minister, by 6 deputies, or even by 10,000 citizen signatures.
