Saudi Arabia has sent a two-member team to Istanbul in order to remove evidence of the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a week after he disappeared at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in early October, according to an unnamed Turkish official.
He believes this indicates Saudi officials knew about the crime, Reuters reports.
According to him, a chemist and toxicologist were responsible for removing evidence before Turkish investigators provide access to Saudi consulates, Kosovo Preress broadcasts.
Turkish newspaper “Sabah” has identified the two Saudis as Ahmed Abdulaziz Al-Jonabia and Khaled Jahja al-Zahran, claiming they arrived in Turkey as part of the 11-member team that is supposed to conduct the inspection, along with Turkish officials.
“We believe these people came to Turkey on duty to hide evidence of Khasoggi's murder before Turkish police were allowed to search for location,” said the official.
They conducted a “clean-up operation” at the consulate and residence of consuls in Istanbul until 17 October and left Turkey three days later.
The fact that these cleaners came from Saudi Arabia nine days after the assassination suggests that Khahoggi's murder was carried out with the knowledge of the highest Saudi officials,” states the Turkish official.
