Turkey's Foreign Affairs Minister, Mevluut Cavusoglu, declared today in Tokyo that Turkey has clear evidence regarding the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, which has not yet been made public and will be published once the entire investigation is completed.
Some of the evidence has been handed over to Saudi authorities and other states that are interested in investigating the case. So Cavusolgu declared a visit to Japan, reports the state news agency “Anadolu”.
After the investigation is complete and we are sure of everything, we will continue to publish the facts”, he said.
He added that he is in the responsibility of Saudi authorities to find out what happened to Khashogg's body, after a team of 15 who, according to Turkey, was sent to kill Khashoggin, has already returned to Saudi Arabia.
He reiterated that Turkey does not believe King Salman has ordered the assassination. He announced that Erdogan has twice talked to Salman on the phone and does not believe he is a guy who issues a murder order.
However, last week Erdogan had said that the order to murder journalists had come from the highest levels of Saudi government. Saudi Arabia had earlier declared that the journalist had immediately stepped out of the consulate, but later acknowledged that he had been killed inside it.
However, the Saudi state has consistently denied charges of responsibility for the murder, though close government associates are among the murder suspects.
Turkey has repeatedly accused Saudi Arabia of lack of co-operation in investigations and of destroying evidence. On Monday, a Turkish official said that at least two members of the team sent by Saudi Arabia to investigate the killing of Khashogg had actually come to cover the evidence, writes the Washington Post”.
