The 44-year-old has enjoyed a successful career with clubs like Spurs, Arsenal and Portsmouth, as well as representing England in three World Champions before retirement in 2012.
Campbell was recently working at England's U-21 National Technical Staff.
Macclesfield, a club that has returned to last season's Football League, is in last place in the Second League and has won only two championships this season.
