A human rights group has sharply criticised Serbia's government after its defence ministry published and promoted a book written by two former military generals sentenced by The Hague war crimes tribunal.
Youth Initiative for Human Rights [ The YIHR said on Saturday this move provides open state support to war criminals convicted by the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, the AP reports.
The court found the two former generals -- Nebojsa Pavkovic and Vladimir Lazarevic -- guilty of crimes committed by Serb troops in Kosovo during the 1998-99 war that left more than 10,000 dead and nearly 1 million others displaced from their homes. Pavkovic suffers the 22-year sentence in prison, while Lazarevic has returned to Serbia after serving a 14-year sentence in prison, Koha.net broadcasts.
The Serbian Defence Ministry is promoting the memoaries of two former war generals at the Belgrade Book Fair this week.
