Despite what the public believed, however, there was never anything on the way to scientific evidence to support it.
But now, research has shown for the first time that drinking milk seems to make the worst symptoms for patients who already have excessive mucus secretions.
Doctors behind the study say the findings, published in Laringoscopi magazine, came as a complete surprise, as they expected to destroy the old link between milk and the base.
I was skeptical and didn't believe it to be true, says Adam Fromsch, an ear specialist, nose specialists and throat at Stevenage Hospital, Hertfordshire.
Indeed, a number of previous studies have suggested that this does not stand.
But as Mr. From the years I felt I needed to see him if only to put the idea to rest.
The results were the opposite of what I expected”, he says.
