Some residents of Matti 1 neighbourhood have protested today in front of the Pristina municipality because the basements of the building they live in are flooded with sewage.
After the meeting that residents have had with municipal officials, they have received the promise that their problem will be resolved within hours.
Residents living on the B Street at the Royal Buildings say that problems are already facing them for a year and say they have announced the municipality.
And they've made it known that by now 10 days their basements are filled with sewage.
Residents' representative Musa Gashi has said that always when there is rainfall, their basements end up in that situation, but that this time the depth has gone to three feet.
“It's about a complex where more than 1,000 and 200 people live, the problem that has now surfaced to us, and sometimes earlier is the turning of sewage, the sewers into our basements. We've struggled with why this is happening to us and we've been told that it's a problem that the municipality should deal with. Other agencies have also tried to deal with it as a pipeline, and others have not been able to solve it. Now 10 days we're on the sewage over three feet. Problems require quick solutions, it is acute, urgent situation”, he said.
Protesters have been met by Pristina Deputy Mayor Muhedin Nushi, where, according to residents, he has promised that their problem will be resolved by day.
Residents' representative Musa Gashi has said after the meeting that the municipality was informed of their problem and they have made promises that it will be intervened.
“We just got out of the meeting with Deputy Mayor Muhedin Nushi, he knew the issue that concerns us and he knew very well. We talked with him about emergency intervention and he agreed to it and made commitments that immediately within 24 hours he's been acting there on this issue that is more than urgent. Let us now see as residents how municipalities will act and how we will be organized further. There's a lot of problems there, but the emergency problem is channeling into our basements, which should be removed as soon as we can, he indicated.
Vahide Behra, a resident, says she is shy about the current ten days.
And that's where we live, that's where the current is connected, the heat is connected, it's the elevator that doesn't work, we have sick residents going to the dialize with the carts, we drive them down. What is happening is shameful from the municipality, the municipality is aware that one year with this problem. We've got our own initiative to calm, but the municipality hasn't allowed us, says it's municipal work and they don't do anything. Isn't this embarrassing by the citizen to whom we gave the vote, this Shendy we gave him the votes. That's a shame it's happening”, she said.
Residents living on the B road to the Royal buildings had even earlier submitted requests in the Pristina municipality to intervene in the sewer network.
