Oliver Ivanovic, however, could be considered one of the most rational Serbs in the north of “capades and criminals”, controlled mainly by power in Belgrade.
On Tuesday, about 0800 p.m., Ivanovic was shot with 5 bullets from the vicinity in a well-planned attack. Also important international diplomats and institutions reacted to the murder in Pristina. His murder would have political implications in Pristina-Belgrade relations.
Ivanovic, known as a positive person and quite good with neighbours, was killed Tuesday in front of his party headquarters, located in northern Mitrovica. The car, allegedly the murder, was found in Zvecan, burned, but the killers were not yet captured by police.
“They took it for the second time, only this time it won't be returned by” That's what the deceased wife, Millena, said just hours after her husband was murdered. Besides his wife, Ivanovic has left behind a boy of minor age.
Serbian politicians say that as a result of this murder, destabilisation can now occur in the region.
The media have stayed north of Mitrovica, and there have also provided statements from those who have businesses, and reside close to where Ivanovic's murder took place.
Ivanovic's neighbours have shown details of this murder. One of them even indicated that he had greeted Oliver this morning, just minutes before he was killed.
The owner of a joint, but also Ivanovic's relative, has said he didn't hear any shots, but when he saw police at Oliver's headquarters, he thought there was a fight. The murder, according to police, reportedly occurred around 9:00 a.m.
I didn't hear anything. I opened the lokaline at 10:00. Except I've seen the police at Oliver's headquarters and I thought there was some kind of a fight somewhere, said, under the condition of anonymity.
He even indicated that Ivanoviqi and I had been in the karate club, but they have also been familiar.
I don't know that there's ever been a problem with someone, that he was a good man”, said the owner of the optics, which is close to the headquarters where the Serb leader was killed today.
A worker in a shop in front of Oliver Ivanovic's party headquarters has said he greeted Ivanoviqi in the morning, but then heard only the shooting.
I said goodbye to Oliver on the street, then I came to open the store and I heard 5-6 gunshots. I went out to see what happened, but some passersby who were there told me Oliver was allvanned”, he said, until he showed he didn't see the car that allegedly killed him.
I didn't see the car because I was opening the store. Oliver has been good to everyone, and what's happened is terrible. We've all been respected, and we've all loved it here.
According to witness statements, the car allegedly killed in Zvecan, this type “Opel Astra” car.
A few hours after the assassination, Kosovo Police have offered a 10,000-euro reward to any citizen who provides information concerning the head of this murder.
Reactions related to the murder have been made from all sides by both Kosovo and Serbian politicians. The presidents of two states -- Kosovo and Serbia -- have strongly condemned this murder, and have called for the quickest finding of authors.
An American State Department report, released two days before today's assassination, warned about the security situation in northern Kosovo.
America announced its citizens to take increased care in Kosovo, especially in the north, due to terrorism.
“Tensions within and between communities continue to incite violence, demonstrations and other riots in northern Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and Zvecan”, said at the warning of the UN.
However, according to a statement by Oliver Ivanovic, four days before the assassination, he seems to have warned of such an assassination against him.
For the Srna agency, he has said he fears a possible assassination because, as he has said, the security situation in the northern part of Mitrovica is extremely bad. But that was not his only warning. In an interview published months ago, in Serbian media, Ivanovic had accused <x0kriminals and his fellow countrymen of having installed fears in the northern part.
The media had implemented a documentary for Oliver Ivanoviqi in February 2016, titled “The Terrible Oliver, Good Oliver”.
In 2014, Kosovo's Special Prosecutor had filed charges against Ivanovic and charged him with committing crimes against Albanians during wartime. He was later sentenced to nine years in prison, but in February 2017, the Court of Appeals had broken the first degree ruling, sending the case to retrial. Since then, Oliver Ivanov was free and continued his party activity.
