Shaqiri has shown how in his childhood in Switzerland he lived only five minutes from the football field, and his career had begun.

I've only lived five minutes away from the fields. That was perfect for me. And that's how it all started”, says Shaqiri, who took his first career steps to Switzerland.

Shaqiri has also spoken of his hometown, saying that in Kosovo, jobs and opportunities are slim.
He has said Kosovo is a very poor country, where there is not much money.
I was born in Kosovo, a very poor state. There are not many jobs and there is not much before”, Shaqiri says.
He has also shown himself to come from a family that was not wealthy until he had experienced the hardships of war where his uncle's house had been burned.
My uncle's house was burned, that's what I saw with my own eyes. My house, however, was barely standing, but they had stolen and destroyed all”, says Shaqiri, following Inseder.

They had destroyed and stolen everything inside. They had also vandalised the” walls, says 26-year-old of Jedra of Gjilan.
When you get back there after the war and look at all these things you start to see things differently”
He has said that he is happy with life in Switzerland, where he feels safe and secure.
I am happy here in Switzerland where we are safe and can live in peace”, Shaqiri points out.
