The pope also asked the priests to apologize to sexually abused victims.

He made that statement during his first visit to Chile, reports “BBC”, report Periscope.

The pope was criticised in Chile for his decision in which he had appointed a bishop accused of covering a special abuse committed by a priest.

Pope Francisescu has said in the past that dealing with abuse is vital to the credibility of the church and that sanctions should be imposed against the authors.

But critics in Chile say he failed to respond to their request to consider the appointment of Juan Barro as Bishop of Osorno.

Under the leadership of Pope Francis, a Vatican committee has been established to combat sexual abuse and help victims, but Chilean victims of sexual abuse say more transparency is needed./Periscopi/
